Making barn doors

Choose your barn door hardware before determining the door height. Check the measuring instructions or ask the manufacturer for help arriving at the door height. Select the room and door you want to swap out for the barn wood door.

Remove the door you are planning to replace and measure the door opening to determine your door size and how much appearance board you will need. Decide on the door size. Barn doors should at minimum, cover the door opening and extend a few inches past the door when fully open.


We cut them to length using the miter saw. We inserted the panels into the door centering the panels in the opening. Then we drilled a couterbore and held the panels in place with a fender washer and a 1″ kreg screw. I figured out a way to make a beautiful yet inexpensive barn style door using.
