Machinist ’s Hammer. I don’t know a single machinist that hasn’t made one of these. The actual design varies by school, but they all look essentially the same. I modified the design of the one I made over a decade ago based on things I wasn’t crazy about. For example, this one has flats on the handle.

Vise stops are very useful, and very common, as they will get nearly daily use in a lot of shops. Here we will be building one that quickly clamps to the back jaw. It can be done with basic shop tools and makes a great apprentice project.
