How to make a hooked rug

How long does it take to hook a rug? How to hook rugs with yarn? How do you make a latch hook rug? Wrap a wool strip around you hook like this. Most people start with a kit consisting of a painted canvas, sufficient cut yarn to complete the project, and a latch hook.


Bind the edges of the canvas either with rug binding or with temporary tape to prevent raveling. Any library or fabric store will have it. Sort out the cut yarn pieces by color. Begin hooking the rug. Use the hook end of the needle to pull a few inches of the end of the rug yarn through to the top of the canvas. This is your first tail.


Insert the hook into the next hole and hook the rug yarn and pull back through. Fold an edge over one or two times and whipstitch around the edge until secure. Repeat on all for sides to bind the edges of the rug Push your hook through a square.
