How to care for laminate wood flooring

How to clean laminate floors correctly? What is best for cleaning laminate floors? It’s acidic which isn’t the best for your laminate surface, but many people swear by a little bit of vinegar and a lot of hot water to cut pet grime. Used in abundance, though, it can remove the protective seal on your floors.


Traditional wet mopping is a no-no! No stiletto heels on laminate. After mopping, go over floors with a dry microfiber cloth or a dry mop to ensure no water remains on the laminate. For deeper cleaning, you can use a steam mop very sparingly on laminate floors.


Be sure to dry the floor immediately after steam cleaning with a clean, dry microfiber cloth or mop. Soak up excess liquid with a dry cloth. Dampen the cloth or sponge before spot-cleaning the location of the spill to remove any remaining residue. How to care for laminate wood flooring

To keep your laminate floors fresh, mop them every two months. Damp mops (a.k.a. microfiber mops) are gentle enough to use on laminate. Vinegar and water is a non-toxic and low-cost way of cleaning the floor, as all, you probably already have a bottle of vinegar in your home. To prevent damage, do not polish or wax a laminate floor.


Swiffer products are safe to use on sealed wood flooring and laminate, but should NOT be used on unseale waxe or oiled wood. For best , sweep first using the Swiffer sweeper or Sweep and Vac to eliminate any loose debris and then clean in the direction of the grain. Just “spot clean” your floor with a microfiber cloth and some soapy water if the whole floor does not require washing. Do not use soap or detergent-based cleaners, wax-based products or any type of polish on laminate floors as these may leave a dull, filmy residue. It is not recommended to wax or refinish your laminate floor.

Blot up large spills with a sponge, dry cloth or paper towel. Do not allow puddles to remain on the surface of your laminate floor for a long period of time because they could cause warping.
